Stable verse identifiers

KJV.43.003.016 = John 3:16

The reference transcription’s book order and verse numbering are fixed. A later textual correction must preserve verse identity and record its provenance. The corpus manifest includes per-chapter counts and a SHA-256 fingerprint.

Queries and pagination

List endpoints accept offset and limit; the maximum page size is 100. Search additionally accepts testament=ot|nt|all, from=genesis, to=revelation, speaker=Jesus|Nicodemus, and order=first|last. Speaker coverage is explicitly limited to the returned annotations.

const url = new URL("https://veymont.io/api/v1/search");
url.searchParams.set("q", "grace NEAR/5 faith");
url.searchParams.set("testament", "nt");
const response = await fetch(url);
if (!response.ok) throw new Error(`Search failed: ${response.status}`);
const result = await response.json();
console.log(result.total, result.occurrences, result.items);

Errors use HTTP status codes with an error message. Use modest request rates, retain source attribution, and avoid repeated full-corpus scans. The public API does not accept writes or expose private account data.

Citable pages and archival editions

Verse pages have fixed URLs. Resource claims, source pages, transcript segments, and paper paragraphs have stable anchors. Citation exports include the reference title, source identity, URL, and an access date. Chicago and Turabian exports provide a bibliography-style starting point; a student must still follow the exact requirements of their institution and add the relevant locator.

Published resource snapshots can be selected with ?revision=. Approved paper snapshots use the same form. Journal issue and paper downloads preserve the approved text in a standalone printable HTML edition, which can also be saved as PDF from the print dialogue.

Coverage, classification, and rights terms govern each dataset. The API does not supply a new licence for an underlying work. Book text and scan OCR endpoints can return HTTP 451 when the trusted request territory is outside their recorded scope. No user header or query parameter can select a country. Library, atlas, entity, audio and facsimile citation IDs use their namespace followed by a colon; for example facsimile:kjv-1611 with anchor=leaf-0078.
